JL Thompson’s Soledad Canyon Guest Ranch.

Soledad Canyon is a long narrow canyon / valley located in Los Angeles County, California between the cities of Palmdale and Santa Clarita. Soledad Canyon contains the localities of Vincent, Acton, Ravenna, and Agua Dulce.

It is traversed by the Antelope Valley Freeway and the Metrolink Antelope Valley Line . Travelers on board the Metrolink are afforded a view of much of the Santa Clara River through Soledad Canyon, which drains the canyon. It will also serve as the route for the planned California High-Speed Rail line between Sylmar and Palmdale.

Soledad Canyon Road is a street in Santa Clarita. It is the second longest street in the city; only The Old Road is longer.

Now more than 50 years old, the mother of all theme parks – in fact, the only Disney park that Walt Disney ever got the chance to personally visit – just keeps packing them in. Current attendance figures are classified, according to a Disney spokesman, but they will say that more than 500 million guests have visited the Anaheim, California park. About half of those guests come from California.

For all intents and purposes, Disneyland California was `born` back in 1955 when visionary Walt Disney bought up enough Anaheim acreage to create what Disney likes to call the “Happiest Place on Earth.” Disneyland actually is somewhat different from its sister parks like Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida

Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 AM to 5 PM. Admission and parking are free. Educational field trips and docent guided tours may be arranged by calling our Curator of Education, Dora James at (949) 476-0294.

The paintings from this beautiful and important regional variant of American Impressionism are principally landscapes that document the splendor of California as it was before huge population growth and mass urbanization.

You might not think of Huntington Beach – Surf City USA® — as a place for serenity and solitude. But maybe that’s because many visitors haven’t discovered the pleasant anomaly of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, the largest coastal wetlands restoration project in Southern California.

Enjoy the fruits of this effort on reopened trails that cross the Inner Bolsa Bay to the bluffs and wander the coastal dune system. Here you’ll see the dark shapes of fish move like cloud shadows through still tidal shallows and great flocks of birds rise against a distant high-rise skyline. Though surrounded on three sides by civilization and by PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) on the fourth, these precious wetlands are still home to juvenile fish and flocks of shorebirds, seabirds and migratory birds.

First and foremost, Bolsa Chica is a birder’s paradise, where you might spot (to name just a few) red-throated loons; assortments of grebes, pelicans, and cormorants; and white-faced Ibis, merlin, and osprey. In summer, you might see coyotes and peregrine falcons too.
