From early spring through late fall, festivals dot the state from the desert to the ocean. The Coachella festival brings thousands of fans and more than 100 acts to the desert near Palm Springs every April for three days of outdoor rock, hip-hop, alternative, world music, and sunshine. Camping available onsite.

At the other end of the festival season is the Monterey Jazz Festival in September. For more than 50 years it’s been bringing the country’s best jazz musicians to one of the world’s most beautiful bays for three days of swing, bebop and everything in between. Where else can you enjoy a glass of wine, a little calamari, and some live Cassandra Wilson under September’s sunny skies?
