North America's Top Shark-Attack Beaches

 :

North America's Top Shark-Attack Beaches

Due to its thousands of annual beachgoers—as well as its toothy inhabitants that hunt offshore—New Smyrna is the shark attack capital of the world. That's according to the International Shark Attack File, which cites 210 attacks in the beach's home county of Volusia, Fla. But miles of white sand and consistent surf breaks continue to draw vacationers and locals alike into New Smyrna's waters.

Island Paradises in America

Island Paradises in America

You come across three humpback whales on the ferry to Santa Cruz Island from the California mainland. Not the least bit troubled by our presence, they let you glide almost within touching distance before thrusting their tails out of the water and diving.

And so it goes on an isle that conjures California’s distant past, an American version of the Galapagos that harbors more than 700 species of plant and animal life. Pods of dolphins, sea lions basking on the stony shore; bright orange garibaldi and colonies of starfish inside half-submerged caves that can only be reached by kayak. The only thing missing are the Chumash Indians who lived here until well into the Spanish period.

 :

The Mission Inn of Riverside is more than a hotel or a museum or an arts cnter or an historical landmark, although it is all of the these.

It evolved with its surrounding community reflecting the life around it in a special way. The major factors in it were the personality, cultural interests and business genius of Frank Augustus Miller, who became known as the Master of the Inn.

He was a serious minded youth of 17 when he came to Riverside with his family in 1874, his father being a surveyor for the entire colony. Young Miller quickly became independent.

Tom's Farm

 :

Tom's Farm is located in Temescal Canyon near Lake Elsinore. The produce stand opened in 1974 way out in the middle of nowhere. As the surrounding area grew so did Tom's Farm. Over the years the farm has added a wine and cheese store, duck pond, furniture store, and several restaurants. The newest addition to the farm is a kid friendly ride section including an old time carousel and miniature train ride. Inside the produce store you can still find fresh produce, dried fruit, nuts, dates, jelly bellies and candies. What started out as a produce stand has now turned into a family destination attracting visitors from all over Southern California.
